Vaginal Steaming

Resourced from Kelli Garza, aka Steamy Chick

STEAM SETUP

1. If you do not have a steam sauna or chair, put your steam pot on the floor (preferably on top of a plush carpet, rug or blanket).
2. Wrap a towel around the pot, so that the insides of the pot will not touch your skin.
3. Place your feet on either side of the pot. Carefully lower your knees to either side of the pot. You can steam in this position or modify it by resting your arms and head in salutation position on the floor.

ALTERNATE SETUP
Modify a chair by creating a hole or opening in the center of the seat. Place your steam pot beneath it.

CAUTION
The use of a plastic bowl for vaginal steaming is discouraged because heat causes toxins to be released from plastic materials. A stable material such as stainless steel, ceramic, clay, or heat-resistant glass would preferred.

Prepping your steamy herbs:

1) Add herbs to herb pot*. Use specifications on herb packet or from steam practitioner to determine how much herbs.

2) Add boiling water and cover. Let steep five minutes.

3) Check temperature until desired heat level. (The temperature should be nice like a hot shower)

4) Remove bottoms and sit or kneel over steam.

*Recommended herb pots would be stainless steel, glass or enameled cast iron. It’s best to have a dedicated herb pot for steaming.

**Usually 6 cups (1.5 quarts or liters) works well. Less or more water is okay based on pot size or preference.

BOIL PREPARATION

1) Boil water** in herb pot* and then remove from heat.

2) Add herbs and then cover.

Alternatively, if the herbs have a lot of seeds and barks you can leave the heat on low for 5 minutes and then remove from heat.

3) Let sit for 10 minutes.

4) Check temperature until desired heat level. (The temperature should be nice like a hot shower)

5) Remove bottoms and sit or kneel over steam.
