Kava Kava Cinnamon Hot Chocolate Recipe

Kava Kava is originates from the South Pacific islands, particularly the areas of Polynesia. It has been cultivated for centuries by Pacific Islander cultures, with strong historical roots in places like Fiji, Vanuatu, Samoa, and Tonga. The plant was traditionally used in ceremonial and social gatherings, where the root was prepared as a cold drink.

It's leaves are heart shaped, showing us how heart protective it is… it's stalks? Like knobby joints, sharing with us how protecting it is to our joints.

Kava is great for sleep and getting your braininto deep beta brainwaves without an AM hangover, perfect for jet lag.

Aphrodisiacs bring bliss and safety in the body. Relaxing the mind, relieving tension, and opening the senses. It opens the waters, activates the solar plexus and our self-love.

Kava Kava is a good teacher around creating and manifesting into the world. Perfect time to drink her in his autumn season as we begin to reflect and get curious with what we want to create next year.

Traditionally, kava is prepared as a cold infusion first, then it becomes the base liquid to this tonic. But if you’re lacking the time, or the patience to sip on this tonic (happens all the time), then you can go straight to whisking the kava powder into your hot chocolate blend.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk milk (if you have the kava cold infusion already prepared, then add 1-2 big dollops of coconut cream).

  • 1-2 tablespoons raw cacao powder

  • 1 teaspoon kava kava root powder

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey

  • Pinch of sea salt

  • Optional: ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, warm the milk (or kava infusion) over medium-low heat

  2. Whisk in cacao powder, kava kava powder, and cinnamon

  3. Add maple syrup and salt

  4. Simmer gently for 5-7 minutes, whisking occasionally

  5. Add vanilla if desired

  6. If you have a frother, use it

  7. Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy mindfully

Note: Consult with a healthcare provider before using kava kava, as it may interact with certain medications. Do not consume during pregnancy.
